Frank Robert Paine, age 90, of Grants Pass, Oregon passed away on November 25th, 2016 at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center.

Son of Frank Dennison Paine, Frank and his brother, Rees, were born and raised in Iowa. He is survived by his niece, Sue, who lives in California.

Frank served in the Army Air Force in 1946 and 1947, then resumed an education and received a degree from Iowa State University in 1950.

Frank produced educational films at Iowa State University, Penn State, University of Mississippi, and Southern Illinois University. His personal films have won awards at film festivals worldwide, with specific films and materials held in the archives of several universities and state schools, and the New York Museum of Modern Art.

Frank was the Executive Director of the SIU Film Production Unit from 1960-1974, changing from administration to full-time teaching as an Associate Professor until the early 1980’s.

In 1984 Frank and his partner Barbara relocated to Santa Rosa, California, then to Grants Pass in 2001. Frank continued to write stories, articles, and poems, both for enjoyment and publication. He took great pleasure in bird watching activities associated with The Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

He will be remembered as an outstanding storyteller and a gentleman with the sense of humor and interest in the world around him.
